Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander

Kmart achieved our commitment of three per cent representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples by December 2020.

We continue to be committed to understanding, supporting and celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. We are focused on creating employment opportunities for team members with Indigenous backgrounds and ensuring that our teams reflect the diversity in the communities in which we operate.

Our progress:

  • Employment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander team members exceeded 3% in September 2020.

  • In 2019-2020 Kmart employed an Indigenous Employment and Engagement Team

  • Kmart have launched the Kmart Deadly Store Program, consisting of 67 stores. The Deadly Store Program is a tailored program that includes:

    • Cultural Awareness Training

    • A focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employment through the local community and our partners

    • Community engagement

    • An Acknowledgement of Country plaque displayed at the store to encourage employment and retention of team members with Indigenous backgrounds

    • A range of other initiatives focused on cultural safety, engagement and education
